The VA Whitetail Trophy Clash
Virginia’s Premier Boone & Crockett Contest!
The most recognized method for measuring big game animals in North America is the Boone and Crockett scoring system. Scoring big game animals on the nationwide stage for the Pope and Young Club and the Long Hunter Society Record Books is also managed with the Boone and Crockett scoring system.
In 1947, the Club held its first competition for outstanding trophy animals that were ranked by a series of measurements. The club refined their program in 1950 and introduced the current system in use today.
The Virginia Deer Hunters Association’s trophy deer contest was established in 1988 at the Virginia Outdoor Sportsman Show, and we continued using the Virginia Scoring System for 20 years. However, in 2009, the contest took new shape when the Boone and Crockett Scoring System was presented. We recognized that this was the benchmark for identifying the true score of the whitetail that the hunting community could relate to. When we reach across state-lines and brag about our Virginia trophy bucks, it’s the B&C score that draws attention.
Today we’re co-sponsors of The VA Whitetail Trophy Clash with the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources. We are very thankful to our good friends at Green Top Sporting Goods for allowing us to be a big part of their Outdoor Expo and being able to continue the contest that we started 34 years ago.
There is a $35 entry fee, which covers the scoring fees and provides a one-year membership in the VDHA, which includes a year’s subscription to Whitetail Times and a VDHA window decal.
Judges from the DWR and VDHA will be awarding trophies and ribbons to winners. Certificates suitable for framing will be presented to each entry with their Boone and Crockett score. The VDHA has been blessed with sponsors that have stood behind the organization throughout our history like G. L. Howard, Inc., who sponsored the trophies and ribbons.
The VA Whitetail Trophy Clash is an opportunity for deer hunters statewide to display their mounts in this prestigious contest. Registered Boone and Crockett, Pope and Young and Longhunter Society official measurers will be on hand to certify mounts that qualify for these National Record Books.
Pre-registration starts March 1st 2023 and VDHA volunteers will start taking entries on Friday, October 6th, from 12pm to 5pm, and continue again on Saturday, October 7th, from 9am until the deadline of 3pm. There will be no exceptions after the deadline on Saturday. All entries will be returned on Sunday at 3pm, with award presentation beginning at 3:30pm.
Don’t miss this great opportunity to have your buck measured under the Boone and Crockett Scoring System and enjoy the Green Top Outdoor Expo Event. If you have any questions about the contest, e-mail Denny Quaiff at [email protected]
